Castlemaine Experimental Art Prize
I am thrilled to announce that I am a finalist in the Castlemaine Experimental Art Prize!
Unprint Rising, 2023, comprises of 365 shredded love letters and an army bag. In 2017 my abusive husband, a veteran of the Australian Army, died by suicide. Death has a paper trail, particularly when that death is a direct result of the impacts of war. Unprint Rising explores the imprint of trauma by breaking down and creatively reinstating 365 love letters. Psychoanalyst John Bowlby’s third stage of bereavement, ‘reorganisation’, sees the mourner realise that whilst their old life is changed forever, there can be a positive ‘new normal’. My weavings of re-organised print matter are an allegory that offers a way to see that all is not lost in the vast ‘shredded-ness’ of the ‘unprint’.
See it and 44 other incredible experimental print works at the Castlemaine Art Museum before it closes on 28 January 24!
